Owl Art

Dissolution - January 2007
An owl dissolves into the Arctic sky. Inspired by Inuit soapstone, this is my impression of a shaman's journey. Unlike many aboriginal and other cultures around the world, owls are seen as a good omen in Inuit culture. I like to paint against the grain and believe that owls are birds to be admired. Acrylic on 9 x 12" canvasboard.
Painting is framed using archival materials and is ready to hang.

Dreaming - August 2008
Another version of a snowy owl dissolving into the Arctic sky, with snow falling softly through the air. With closed eyes his journey continues.

Owls Dance - April 2006
Owls dance under the Northern Lights, their breath visible in the cold air. Inspired by Inuit soapstone carvings, this is my version of two of my favorites subjects: carved owls with spread wings, and dancing polar bears. Acrylic on 8 x 10" canvaspaper.

Dancing Owl - 2005
Inspired by Inuit soapstone carvings of dancing bears, an owl dances in the snow to celebrate his reincarnation. Within him, a little human spirit burns bright. Acrylic on 11 x 14" stretched canvas.
Unframed, but it is wired in the back for hanging.
